I made a promise following a heartbreak that I would pursue another relationship as I had pursued this one. I'm glad to say that I have, but it came with a loss, and I can't say I didn't feel that loss. Without You is about something joyful, but it's feeling gets lost amidst the sorrow.

Like most of the songs on Of Lions and Liberty, this song originated from a guitar riff I had written years ago. The basic chords and riff never changed, but was greatly expanded over the years with additional parts and, of course, lyrics.
