about

Sometimes we run from those who are only trying to help us.

My good friend Ian Brookwell wrote the original guitar riff that bloomed into this full blown song. I am very grateful for him letting me turn it into a full song and put it on this album. It's one of my favorite songs because of it's simple yet complex, and subtle nature. The song is very repetitive, yet each portion is different because of the subtle changes we added. I enjoyed writing this very much and experimenting with different harmonies, getting away from the classic 3rd/5th harmonies.

lyrics

I am the runner
Running where I stand
I run on down the river
Where no one gives a hand

I am the runner
And everywhere I go
There is one called the hunter
And he's getting very old

I am the runner
How selfish could I be
Running from the hunter
Who hunts to set me free

I am the runner
And because of what I've done
I could never be a lover
No, not to anyone

I am the runner
I'm so scared of being caged
Don't want to be another
Lion gone to waste

I am the runner
Within the grasp of life itself
When reaching for the water I wait
For in the hunter's hand it's held

I am the runner
No matter what I do
You keep reminding me
That I can always be with you

about

apollo and Lacuna Nashville, Tennessee

Definitively progressive with use of odd time signatures and key changes, apollo and Lacuna's music takes blues-rock in a whole different direction, taking on the carnal folk style of Iron & Wine, the subtle whispers of Simon & Garfunkel, the beautiful oddities of Sigur Ros, and the blues infused pop of John Mayer. It's clear that apollo and Lacuna reaches for a more evolved musical experience. ... more
