about

The legend goes that a woman named Lorelei threw herself off of a rock into the Rhine River seeking the escape from the newly acquire knowledge that her husband was cheating on her. I thought about all the other people who are betrayed, and knew if anyone were to ever heal, the most important thing to do was not give up hope that that healing could happen.

This song has an odd timing structure while thumping on the E. The way I counted it was: 2 measures of 3/4, followed by 2 measures of 4/4 repeated. I still can't remember why I ever did this, but I feel it flows really well. I still can't get over how the opening a'Capella turned out. I wrote it to sound like a train whistle, without being able to ever hear it before hand. When it came time to record, I crossed my fingers that it would sound good, and low and behold it sounds better than I ever thought it could thanks to Jen Polfer. Every train should be equipped with her singing "Lorelei" in that sweet timbre that can only be her voice. I don't think I would be quite as irritated when a train went by if that were so.

lyrics

Lorelei don't give up yet
I see the sea
And the sea watches me

Lorelei don't give up yet
I want to fly
Fly far away

I heard him laughing
A lazy smile that he stole
A conversation
That led down one lonely road

Lorelei don't give up yet
I see the sea
And the sea watches me

Lorelei don't give up yet
I want to fly
Fly far away

Came close together
So close the cold band forgot
A cruel beginning
For a treasure bought

I ran from hurt but surely it found me
It's time to sink
To sink or to swim
Darling don't sink, swim

about

apollo and Lacuna Nashville, Tennessee

Definitively progressive with use of odd time signatures and key changes, apollo and Lacuna's music takes blues-rock in a whole different direction, taking on the carnal folk style of Iron & Wine, the subtle whispers of Simon & Garfunkel, the beautiful oddities of Sigur Ros, and the blues infused pop of John Mayer. It's clear that apollo and Lacuna reaches for a more evolved musical experience. ... more
