about

Haunted was originally intended to belong alongside the others on Of Lions and Liberty, but it just didn't work out at the time. The original concept included an instrumental intro of Amazing Grace much similar to the way done here, but without words. As I began playing the song live through the last couple years, I began singing Amazing Grace before I began the song as it so perfectly reflects the grace given in the wake of the mistakes Haunted is about.

This song has perhaps one of the most interesting origination stories out of all of my songs. I consider it my first song ever written. The first I had ever wrote turned out to be my best memory of a song that had been stuck in my head. I later heard it played and realized I hadn't written the song, but just remembered, albeit poorly, someone else's. The second song I wrote is one a few of you might actually remember. It was called "The Door", but I never did get around to actually finishing it and probably never will. A few years ago, I was the guitar player for a band called Carolina Fever and one day I decided to write a song instead of just a guitar part for us. I wrote "Feed Her" with a raunchy rock riff and tom beat and never had any intention of singing it. We recorded it and included it in our second EP entitled "Lady Lucifiren EP". But as I moved onto apollo and Lacuna, I brought it along with me, changed it to the sulky blues style it should have always been, and wrote a new chorus.

Haunted is simply about addiction. There really isn't much more to say about it other than that. It could be anything. Drugs, alcohol, sex, video games, television, food, you name it. Everyone has something they're addicted to and whatever it is, it follows you around and reminds you that it's always there if you want it. If you need it. But you know neither of those things are true. You don't need it. And you really don't even want it. It's like it haunts you.

lyrics

Can't say that I missed you
You never were what I planned
You came to me with naught to offer
But shackles to place on my hands
I want it to end

I never took to you well
I was never more than half pleased
Came running every time things weren't easy
And gladly became diseased
I want it to end
I need it to end

I'm haunted all of my days
I feel her when she calls out my name
I want her gone
Gone away

My thoughts and dreams are but tainted
And the shadows advance on my soul
A cold embrace would only please the wretched one
And God I want to be free
I need to be free

about

apollo and Lacuna Nashville, Tennessee

Definitively progressive with use of odd time signatures and key changes, apollo and Lacuna's music takes blues-rock in a whole different direction, taking on the carnal folk style of Iron & Wine, the subtle whispers of Simon & Garfunkel, the beautiful oddities of Sigur Ros, and the blues infused pop of John Mayer. It's clear that apollo and Lacuna reaches for a more evolved musical experience. ... more
